Living with Less

We all have lofty goals, ambitions things we want and whatnot. We all want a better life for us and our families. In doing so we are told to work hard, go to school and get good grades. You are told to be live morally upright and you will get your goals. But what happens when life gives you less than what you wanted. You have invested 100% of your effort or energy and all you get back is 50%. This is the point where we get pissed and we blame ourselves and other people for our shortcomings. We go as far as blaming God to our less than desirable results.

The kicker is when you get used to having 50% and saying ok, I can live with this. I can cut back on my lifestyle and I can live with less. I can make due with two meals a day, I don't need to drive my car I can use public transport. You are at peace with life and you are ok and you think it can't get any worse. When you thought you couldn't lose anymore, nothing more can be taken away from you. That is when life reaches its hand to you and takes some more. Life throws you a curve ball and you lose more ground and you get stuck with 30%. This is the point you are really pissed and angry. At this time you have lost your car, job or anything that can be taken away from you and now you are losing your relationship as well.

You have done nothing to deserve this but life keeps taking and taking and taking. Now that you have live on 30%, you find yourself missing 50%. 50% wasn't good at all but it was much better than 30% and now you have to readjust to the living situation. You cried about losing the 50% percent but now you don't cry anymore with the additional 20% loss. You are down to 30% and your guard is up, making you paranoid. You now know anything can be taken away from you. Whenever the phone rings, a text or email is received you are expecting bad news.

If you are at this point in life, you should know this is a test of your character. How you react in this situation determines who you are. Many of us become cynical, and angry with life. We become pessimists and we are sceptical of everything and everyone. The people who are able to pull through this situation are the ones who are positive and never give up. Big and better things will be available to you if you manage to faithfully endure the struggle. At the end the results will be amazing, and you will be proud of who you are. Diamond is just coal put under extreme pressure.

  2. The book of Job is a great reference to this.
And gratitude has the power to heal just about any loss life can throw at you.
